Out of Bounds, probably one of South Africa’s longest running plays, has been performed in Edinburgh, the UK, across Europe, India and America – as well as extensively throughout South Africa. “Rajesh Gopie’s one man performance in Out of Bounds runs through 28 characters with jaw dropping energy. Billed as the play that so moved Nelson Mandela that he requested a private performance, Gopie never betrayed any pressure he might feel with the enormity of such a recommendation,” writes Natasha Hulluge from Culture Wars in Edinburgh.
“Intelligent and incisive, Rajesh Gopie’s passion shines through. Both irresistibly funny and emotionally searing as a character driven family chronicle,” reviews the South Western University press.
“With its soul in place, the play never got fettered to being an Indian story, but confirmed its place as a “South African classic,” says P Anima writing for The Hindu.
Out of Bounds is written and performed by Rajesh Gopie, and directed by Tina Johnson
